I dunno. I saw a recent pic of my friend from the UK and she was HOT. However, in the US, blame it on sexualization of kids at a young age and the stuff in stores and parents who don't say no when they need to. My mother never would have let me out of the house wearing the stuff I see on the street and in stores. Maybe I'm old at 34?
The weather here lets them dress more casually, and expose a lot more skin.
There are differences in parenting, and if affects the children.
My mom's mom was from Scotland, and our four oldest were girls. She often said phrases we didn't understand, about how we dressed, and said her mother would ....spin in her grave... I think one of the nicer phrases were, if she ever saw any of her girls dressed as we did. We went to Catholic school, and wore uniforms. The only acceptable clothing. My dad often intervened, as a native New Englander. Let the girls be. Just no dark or unnatural make=up, pink was her favorite color for everything, and no dungarees, ever. When designer jeans came out, with the $100 price tag, it didn't make a difference. No jeans, no dungarees. "What she did with the term dung." Even today, I have Bill Blass, Gitano, a few very nice pair, and never wear them, unless I am in the house cleaning. I never wear these outside, and I can't. I do have many green, black, and other color Bandolinos and other jean=like trousers, although no dungarees.
They, the U.K. women are much more conservative women, concerned with foundations, dresses, where the buttons are, the right shoes, etc. And coats, any covering is better than nothing.
She went through the roof with pantsuits for women, and it took her years to accept these. They just weren't natural. I think her family goes back to the days of Tartans, and the King's taxes, and all the feuds about the rights of Scotland to produce their own colors. These led to wars, massacres, and moving to England to avoid being imprisoned or murdered over a pattern to a cloth material. They are very righteous and possessive of their material.
It was very different, the way they grew up and dressed. She prefers the natural materials, she has innate sensibilities.
Us American Girls become sexy when we hear your British accent. It just makes us real accomodating. :)
