Heavier cake?!

Question:

Heavier cake?

why would a cakes weight increase once baked?? this is for a year 9 science investigation some easy and scientific answers please. thanks

Answers:
This must be a hypothesis you are testing. The simple answer is that they don't get heavier, all baked things get lighter once cooked. Are you perhaps confusing volume and weight? Cakes and bread do expand in volume. When heated, the air trapped in the batter causes them to expand.

To respond to the above answer, yeast expands the dough by filling it with air, thus it does not weigh more, it only takes on more volume.

I cook by weight, so I have observed the before and after weights quite a bit.

perhaps some of the liquid have evaporated

I would say that when you put yeast in a cake, you get more dough, which makes the cake heavier.
It's just a guess though
