Suggestions for fondue???!

Question:

Suggestions for fondue???

choc, cheese, how?? what else???

Answers:
Chocolate, and cheese are great. For cheese add some Gouda, cheddar, and some mozzarella. It is really nice and creamy. Puting some mint in the chocolate and dipping some strawberries is wonderful. You also put boiling water, and dipp little strips of steak in it. You can dip bread, sausages, veggies, fruits, etc.

Gruyere cheese, first thing. Find yourself a good fondue recipe and use that....I like the ones that have some white wine in it. Stir, stir, stir, while you are making it, and add the cheese gradually. Some good things to dip in it are cooked chicken, shrimp, steak, bread cubes, bread sticks, pita, whole cherry tomatoes, chunks of potato, whole mushrooms
Dessert has to be a dark chocolate fondue and here's some good things to dip in that one:

strawberries
banana chunks
pound cake
angel food cake
marshmallows (not MY fav, but still popular)
apricot halves
pineapple chunks
pitted cherries

CHEESE FONDUE

1 cup soft bread crumbs
1 cup milk
1/4 cup butter
2 eggs
salt and pepper
grated cheese to suit taste

Cook bread crumbs in milk until smooth. Add butter, cheese, salt and pepper. Cook one minute longer and remove from heat. Beat yolks of eggs and add to mixture. Fold in the stiffly beaten whites. Pour in buttered mold and bake 20 to 30 minutes.
Fish or ham may be substituted for the cheese.

CARAMEL FONDUE

2 (14 oz.) bags caramels
1 (5 oz.) can Carnation evaporated milk
1 (10.5 oz.) bag miniature marshmallows
Assorted cut fruit for dipping - ex. apples, pineapple, cherries, bananas, etc.

Melt caramels in a large double boiler, stir frequently. Stir in milk and marshmallows slowly until completely blended together.
Transfer to fondue pot and serve with cut fruit for dipping. Toss apples in lemon juice to keep from browning

CHOCOLATE DESSERT FONDUE

1/2 tsp. butter
8 chocolate candy bars with almonds (1 oz.) size, broken
1 1/2 c. miniature marshmallows
3 tbsp. milk
1/2 c. whipping cream

Use 1 quart fondue pot or 1 quart crockette. Rub butter around pan.
Place candy and marshmallows in pot. Cover and cook, stirring until melted and smooth on low temperature. Gradually add whipping cream. Cover and keep warm for serving up to 6 hours. Serve with bite-size pound cake, bananas, marshmallows, fresh strawberries, grapes, mandarin oranges and pretzels

Chocolate is really good. if you are doing chocolate you can put in fruit like strawberries, pineapple, and bananas, or marshmellows, or anything else you like chocolate covered. Cheese i have only had once but it is good with little cubes of bread, vegitables, or get this, appples. all you need is a fondue pot, the little poking things, a sterno or distilled alchol (depends on the pot), and imagination.

Do you have a fondue pot?

If so put cheese in it, probably use cubes and melt them in the pot. After they are in pot light/turn on sturno(the little gas thing that goes under it). Once melted put bread, should be in cubes, on end of fork and dip in the cheese and eat. They make fondue forks.
There is also beef fondue but i am clueless on that mom only made it with cheese.

Be careful cheese gets real HOT

We make fondue each Christmas for our family and they love it. Here's our recipe for cheese fondue and chocolate fondue.

Cheese Fondue:
2 cups shredded Swiss or Gruyere cheese
2 cups shredded smoked Gouda
2 garlic cloves, chopped fine
1/2 to 1 cup dry white wine
4 tbsp. cornstarch
Salt, pepper, nutmeg to taste

Place your cheeses in a bowl and toss them with the cornstarch. Place your garlic in the fondue pot with the wine and let simmer for about 10 minutes to cook the garlic. Once the wine is almost boiling turn down the heat to low and add in your cheeses one handful at a time stirring constantly. Keep stirring and adding in handfuls of cheese after the last addition has melted. Once all cheese has been melted add in your seasonings to taste. We serve ours with toasted cubed bread, cut broccoli, peppers, mushrooms, carrots, cooked cubed potatoes, and believe it green apples are the best dippers.

Chocolate Fondue:
1 bag semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/4 to 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
2 tsp. vanilla extract or liqueurs such as Irish Cream or Kahlua

Place your chocolate chips and cream in a heavy bottomed sauce pan and heat over low heat until melted. Then add in your flavorings. Add as much cream as you like to get the dipping consistency you want. We serve ours with cubed pound cake, strawberries, cheesecake bites, shortbread cookies, and other cookies as dippers.

you can also make a beef fondue, cut up meat into cubes (try using a sirloin or some cut from the loin), then fill the fondue pot with vegetable oil.
You make different sauces for the meat, it's very fun!....try BBQ, curry, something with mustard, etc....
So you dip the meat in the oil and when it's cooked to you likeness you dip 'em in different sauces...
it's very fun! try it
