Cooking saffron rice?!

Question:

Cooking saffron rice?

I bought Viggo saffron yellow rice and every time I cook it, the pan burns. I follow the directions exactly (hard to believe if I keep burning it). The last time I took it off the heat at the minumum time, the pan was burned and the rice wasn't fully cooked! Help me, please, because I love this rice and can't seem to cook it. When I'm bringing the water to a boil, I use high heat (maybe that's the problem?) When I simmer it, I put it on the lowest possible heat, and I do put in the optional oil that the recipe calls for. I've used non-stick and metal pans, and it burns each time. And I don't have a rice cooker. Thanks in advance for any suggestions offered!

Answers:
try cooking it on low heat

i eat that all the time but my moms the one who cooks, speaking of the devil were havin it for dinner tonight.... sorry i cant help though

it sounds like you need a heavy based pan. thin bottomed pans will let the rice overcook and burn on the bottom. good luck!

Add a little tiny bit of oil or butter to the water, and put the rice in the water only after the water is boiling, and lower the heat to minimum at that point. Cover and then cook for a short time. Keep checking the pot 2-3 times. Let it sit for a few minutes after u turn the fire off. Good Luck

Here's a method that was given to me by a coworker. It does work. I most often use the regular boiling method, but that's not working. Try this:

Add the rice package to the boiling water and then when it boils again, reduce the heat to about medium (or lower if it works better for you). Cook it UNCOVERED, stirring often, while you're making the rest of the meal. When the mixture starts cooking down and getting to be mostly rice, COVER the pan and remove from heat.

Let it sit while you finish cooking the rest of the meal. The process will take a little longer for the rice to finish absorbing the rest of the water, but you should avoid the burning.

Good luck.

You need to remember to use 2 cups of water for every cup of rice. And the best way to cook your rice is to bring the rice to a boil and as soon as it comes to a boil turn the heat down and let it simmer for 20 minutes. And never take the lid off until it's done because the rice will cook better if you don't let all the steam escape. Make sure that you turn the heat down as soon as it starts boiling.

You need to use a HEAVY pan and a lid that fits well.

don′t use stainless steel pots....

IT'S THE PAN WHAT KIND OF PAN ARE YOU USING? YOU NEED A PAN THAT'S LARGE ENOUGH SO THE RICE EXPANDS STAINLESS STEAL DO YOU ADD OIL

When you go from high to low heat, take the pan off the burner until the heat goes to low. Then put it back on. I am assuming you are using an electric stove. Or look for a good sale on rice cookers. They work like a dream.

use the microwave, i used to burn rice, under cook it, you name it. lol then a friend told me to use the micro. just follow the same directions. except for the last half of the time cook on medium heat. perfect rice every time. good luck.

i dont no

Man, I do the same thing! If you don`t have a rice cooker, just
use a chicken cooker!

It's probably your pan. It may be a good idea to invest in a good heavy pan with lid or buy a rice cooker. Good luck!
