What is the purpose of vinigar while pickling eggs?
I was reading a recipe for pickling eggs. In every recipe i found you had to use vinigar. so obviously there is a purpose but what is it>?
Answers:
There are several ways to preseve food. Pickling (or the use of vinegar) is just one. Vinegar will keep the food or eggs from going bad, just like pickles in a jar are preserved in vinegar. It may not taste like it because of all the other spices, but the biggest ingredient is vinegar.

Vinegar is a preservative - it gives the eggs a much longer shelf life. That's why it's used in pickling of so many things (cucumbers, beets, etc)
its a natural preservative..
