Using skim milk instead of whole milk for pastry cream?!

Question:

Using skim milk instead of whole milk for pastry cream?

would this still work? also, where can you get vanilla beans.

Answers:
I would suggest using skim evaporated milk.

It is thicker than just regular skim.

You can even find vanilla beans at walmart by spice islands or durkee but you can also find them from many sites online.

sure, it ll work, we use it now a days in many restaurants, bt it ll be a bit thinner than d real cream, so u can use sugar or any other binding agent, bt bt bt, u hv 2 whipp it for a veeeery long time in a bed of ice. try it !! i dont knw bout wer u r from n wer u r going 2 search vannilla beans, bt any moderen grocerry hs it around d world (i guess !!)

Yes you can. Pastry cream is thickened with cornstarch so the lack of fat in the milk won't make any difference. Most grocery stores carry vanilla beans, you can find them with the dried spices. If you can't find the beans, just use extract.

Don't even try it, it will not work! Vanilla Beans can usually be found at larger health food stores or Organic Markets.
