First time use Gasgrill, fist time cook steak. Advise?!

Question:

First time use Gasgrill, fist time cook steak. Advise?

I had never use a gasgrill before, i just bought a char-broil 4 burner, model :463268007 using natural gas hook up to the house. It seems like highest temp i can get is only 250 with all 4 burner set on high. but it doesn't seems to sear the steak within 1 min. i also notice it seems like the area toward the back is hotter while the area closer to the front near the lip is not so hot. this is the first time i use grill and first time cook steak, i am in need of a lot of tips, advise on lots of things like what is the right temp to sear the steak and what's the right temp to cook the steak after searing them. i also bought a smoke box and some hickory chip, and a bag of ceramic, but i am not very sure how to use thhese stuff, where to put them? and tips on cooking good steak etc...Pls, tell me as much as you can. I'm TOTALLY an idiot to this, but i love cooking. Thank you!

Slow down a bit -- I don't think we can do that much for you here 'by remote control', but I've taken a look at your model etc, and the failure to reach a searing temperature is addressed directly by your model's troubleshooting guide:

"For Natural Gas grills - You must either have a natural gas model or have had your grill converted by a gas service technician/gas plumber before connecting to a natural gas source for proper performance. Your gas service technician can provide you with the correct pressure for your area and will inform you if a regulator is needed. If your grill has more than 65,000 BTU’s, a 3/8” hose may not allow enough gas to flow. In this case a 1/2” hose is recommended. If your grill is natural gas, there could be a low gas line pressure or there could be an increase in the gas demand thus causing low gas pressure. If you do own a natural gas grill and you are experiencing low pressure please contact your local gas company."

You will need to check this out. With all four burners on the go (i.e. 'high') you should be reaching 650°F by your manufacturer's own stats.

Get a gas engineer to check your setup in conjunction with your grill's troubleshooting guides -- you can find them here:

*Don't* embark on **any** further cooking attempts until you have the basics covered. You have bought quite a sophisticated piece of kit -- with some additional 'outboard motors' you mention too -- so be methodical about this and work from the ground up: more haste is not only less speed, where gas is concerned, it is more *BANG* when mishandled.

Hope this helps some of the way at least.

Good luck with the grill. Kay

then dont do it have someone u dont want your steak to burn nor u

I was told to watch as the blood leaves the meat, if you let it cook too long and the juices come out clear, it's going to be tough meat.
