Homemade Shortcake Recipe...?
My husband loves Strawberry Shortcake an I would like to know how to make it from scratch...please help? I have a recipe that I found...but it calls for Bisquick and he said that he doesn't want anything to do with that one. HELP!

He probably wants you to make a pound cake, not a shortcake. A shortcake is basically a biscuit that has had more fat added to the recipe.
Here's a very basic pound cake recipe:
1 lb butter, softened
1 lb powdered sugar, do not sift
6 eggs
3 cups cake flour, sifted
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1. Beat butter and sugar until creamy.
2. Add 1 egg at a time beating well after each.
3. Blend in flour.
4. Add vanilla.
5. Bake in 2 greased and floured loaf pans 325 60-70 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center is clean.
INGREDIENTS:
* Filling:
* 1 quart strawberries, rinsed, hulled, sliced
* 1/3 cup sugar

* Shortcake:
* 3 cups sifted all-purpose flour
* 4 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 1/3 cup shortening
* 1/3 cup butter
* 1 cup milk
* melted butter
* whipped cream, sweetened with a little sugar if desired
PREPARATION:
Place strawberries in a large bowl; sprinkle with 1/3 cup of sugar. Let stand, covered, for at least 1 hour before serving.
Sift dry ingredients into a mixing bowl. Cut in shortening and butter until mixture is fine.
Add milk; stir with a fork until all flour is moist. Turn out onto a lightly floured board and knead gently for 20 seconds. Divide dough into 2 equal portions. Gently roll out or pat each portion to fit a 9-inch round cake pan. Place each portion into a lightly buttered pan; press edges to form a slight ridge. Brush with melted butter. Bake at 450° for 12 to 15 minutes. Brush each layer with butter. Spoon sweetened strawberries and juice between layers and on the top. Serve warm, cut in wedges, with whipped cream. Serves 10
Strawberry Shortcake
Ingredients
1-3/4 c Flour
2 tbsp Sugar
1 tbsp Baking powder
1/2 tsp Grated orange peel
3 tbsp Unsalted butter or margarine, cut into pieces
3/4 c Skim milk
FILLING:
2 pints Fresh strawberries, sliced
1 tbsp Orange juice
1 tbsp Sugar
Vanilla nonfat yogurt
Mint leaves for garnish
Preparation
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Spray a baking sheet with vegetable cooking spray. Set aside.
In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar and baking powder. Stir in the orange peel. Using a pastry blender or 2 knives, cut the butter into the flour mixture until coarse crumbs form. Quickly stir in the milk until a soft dough forms.
On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough to a 1/2" thickness. Using a 2-1/2" biscuit cutter, cut out biscuits. Gather trimming, re-roll and cut out more biscuits. Place on prepared baking sheet. Bake until golden, about 12-15 minutes. Place biscuits on a wire rack and cool slightly.
TO PREPARE FILLING:
In a large bowl, combine strawberries, orange juice and sugar. Mix well.
Split warm biscuits in half horizontally. Place bottom halves on serving plates. Top each with some filling. Cover with biscuit tops. Serve with remaining filling; garnish with yogurt and mint.

4 tablespoons milk
6 pats butter
Preheat oven to 400. Mix first five ingredients in a food processor. Beat
together eggs and milk. Pour over flour mixture and process just enough to
blend. Roll out on floured board to about 1/2 inch thickness. Cut out 12
circles with a large round cookie cutter. Place six cut outs on baking
sheet. Top each with pat of butter and then top with a second cut out.
Bake in preheated oven 15 minutes, or until golden brown. Split in middle to
create two layers for strawberry shortcake.
