Is there an easy way to peel a butternut squash?!

Question:

Is there an easy way to peel a butternut squash?

I like butternut squashes but I find peeling them hard work. What I do is I cut a butternut squash into chunks first and then remove the skin using a fruit knife. This is easier than peeling the skin of a whole butternut squash but still it takes time and much effort. Is there a better way to do it? Will it be easier if I steam a whole butternut squash first and then remove the skin?

Answers:
I bake mine skin and all in brown sugar and butter on 350 degrees for about 20 or 30 minutes. Then you don't even have to peel it the skin is edible or if you do want to peel it it comes right off.
Good luck!

I use a regular vegetable peeler. It seems to work the best for me.

these are my fave butternut recipes

As a chef, I say no!!! The easiest way I have found is to bake it first, if possible for recipe, then scooping out what is needed.

It's my favorite squash. I use a peeler and if it don't do the job and cut up small chunks and put it in the microwave to soften the peeling. or you can cook it in the microwave and scoop it out. Either way IT WORKS! Good Luck

microwave it first.

looks like you answered your own question with the steaming that is. microwaving is much easier though just don't forget to split it in half.

I bake a mean butternut squash cake in the Fall and to make peeling easier, I cut the squash in half, put a bit of butter in the clean cavity, and bake them until tender. Then I just scoop out the flesh.

If you want your squash to be more firm, pop them into a pot of boiling water for a minute and remove them and shock them in cold water. That may work to loosen the peel.
