I got this from a website. Not sure what it tastes like though.
English Sweet and Sour Ribs
3 lb. beef chuck short ribs *
3/4 cup unbleached all-purpose flour
2 tsp. seasoned salt
1 tsp. pepper
1/2 cup cooking oil
2 cups sliced onion
1-1/2 cups hot water
9 tbsp. dark brown sugar
1/3 cup catsup
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 lg. bay leaves
Directions:
Trim excess fat from short ribs. Combine flour, seasoned salt and pepper; dredge shrot ribs. Brown ribs in oil on all sides in Dutch oven. Remove meat from pan. Add onions and cook until golden brown. Place ribs on top of onions. Combine water, brown sugar, catsup, vinegar, garlic and bay leaves; pour over ribs. Cover and bake at 350°F for 2-1/2 hours. Remove bay leaves before serving.
cook them on low heat (250) in a dish covered in 1/2 water 1/2 bbq sauce, season, cook 3 hours.
3 hours they should be placed in a roasting pan with water and lemon juice and other spices you enjoy they need to cook for about 2 and a half hrs slow so they will be tender
Water in a pan, half as high as the cut of beef. A light dusting of salt (totally optional). Cook at 325 degrees until brown and tender. Turn each piece once after it turns brown.
Don't burn yourself. Remember to turn off the oven!
This is one of my favorite recipes. The key to this is to let it cook slowly and be sure to skim the fat off the top as the meat is cooking in the sauce. Serve fresh Italian bread with this hearty meal
In a Dutch oven, combine the following ingredients and bring to a slow boil.
1 Can of Tomato Sauce (28 ozs)
3 tblsp lemon juice
4 tsps worcheshire sauce
2 tsps thyme, parsley and 2 bay leaves
2 tblsps brown sugar
1 tsp red pepper flakes
1 large onion diced
salt and pepper
When this mixture comes to a slow boil, add your beef short ribs and mix well. Cover and cook on med-low heat for 2 1/2 hours. Be sure to remove bay leaves when serving.
Make a packet out of heavy duty foil big enough to cover ribs when tightly closed.
If you have beer, pour some into the bottom of the foil packet. If not, pour a little water, beef broth, or other liquid.
Season ribs with a little salt, ground pepper to taste, onion and garlic powder if you have them.
I'd cook at 250 for 2 - 2 1/4 hours then CAREFULLY open packet and brush barbecue sauce onto ribs. Recover and place back into oven for another 15-30 minutes.
Season the ribs with garlic powder , little salt, black pepper, cover with foil. If you have a broil pan with a grill that sits inside broiler pan so much the better...if not place all ribs in a pan that has four sides on it so when the ribs begin baking the grease does not run out of pan into the oven. Bake at 325 degree's for at least 40 minutes. Not sure how you like your meat....well done? Set a timer for 20 minutes when it goes off go in & turn over the ribs so they will cook evenly on both sides. Recover ribs.....check on them now & then...you might want to uncover them about ten minutes before you take them out of oven if you want to put BBQ sauce on them....then bake them uncovered another ten minutes or so...Enjoy.
