Cooking with george foreman grills?!

Question:

Cooking with george foreman grills?

ok i'm considering getting one of these but i have a few questions:

Can i cook meat with any dressing on it? Dry dressing (ie: clubhouse montreal steak spice) or must it be a liquid type of dressing?

How do you prevent burning?

Do you have to spray the grills with non-stick stuff?

Does it have a temperature setting? Timer?

I hear it's quick, but does the meat taste good? How does it compare with BBQ?

Answers:
It's not quite the same as an actual grill.

The steaks tend to get steamed rather than charred. It does make great grilled cheese and quesadillas.

The newer versions do have a temperature setting,

I have one of these that has the bun warmer on top and I LOVE IT! Mainly because I hate doing dishes.

I recommend using a dry spice or a marinade. I wouldn't just pour the liquid onto the meat because u could burn it.

You don't have to spray it. There is no temperature setting or timer. It is quick and all you do is put the meat on the grill and close the lid. You just keep an eye on it. With mine came a recipe book of tips and cooking times. I love grilled veggies on it. You can also cook hot dogs, burgers, steak, fish, shrimp and veggies. When your finished just wipe it with a sponge.

Nothing compares to a BBQ man, you should know that! lol But if your short on time or grill space, IE. an apt. then this would be great for you. I don't always have time to wait for the grill to light but my GF heats up in about 30 seconds.

I love the George Foreman grill and its so easy to clean after use.

You can use any dressing you like.

To prevent burning set timer and check periodically until you get used to the grill.

I use just a little bit of olive oil but Im sure you can also use a cooking spray.

Yes it does have temp and timer setting.

Cooks both top and bottom at same time cooking meats etc all the way through.

I lost weight using this grill.

Hope you enjoy.

Well, comparing a barbeque with a George Foreman grill is like comparing a diamond to an acorn. Which would you rather have? However, it does make food taste pretty freakin good.

I have one, and it doesn't have a temperature setting, but it does have a timer, and it doesn't really take long. It will do a full size steak in about 6 minutes, (Medium) and it tastes pretty good.

No you do not have to spray the grills. I believe they are made of teflon, but I may be wrong. But it doesn't stick.

Burning, you just kinda have to watch it. After you have used it for a while, you will get used to the speed of it, and can adjust the time accordingly.

Dressing, yes. However, if you don't clean it up right away, it can stick a little bit, but cleaning it isn't too hard.

I don't know why I answered your questions backward, but I did, and I hope I helped you a little bit!

George Forman grills are pretty good but a hassle to clean sometimes. I've got one from Hamilton Beech that's the same idea but a little bigger and the grill plate's are removeable for easier cleaning and it's got a timer feature...worth the extra cash in my opinion

OK .George for man grills are good for cooking if you are lazy and don't feel like pulling out the big grill .keep in mind that the g.f grill cooks from top and bottom, thus squeezing the meat letting out all the yummy juices.therefore the meat becomes a little dry.you have always heard dont push down on the meat it gets dry.having said that.they are easy to clean, easier if you spray on non stick, also clean the grill right after your done cooking its easier when its still kinda hot wait a couple of minutes dont burn yourself.yes it has a timer.it does not compete with the BBQ taste.thats always going to be better.the one that i have doesnt have a temp setting but i have never had any thing burn before.as for dressing i have not but i have seasoned the way that i like,so i dont see why you couldnt use dressing.it has a little pan to catch the juices and fat .so i think out of convenience sake get one.get the large one cause the small one is really small.

I have one and it's great, no doubt....and meat gets tough if it is not prepared properly. Chicken and pork must be brined, beef marinated, whether it be liquid or dry rub. What else can I say, it's non stick, and if you just wipe it after you finish it's clean like new. I do have the large double sided one, so maybe this is why I think it's good, and cook time is great.....grill marks and everything, and do you use a timer on a real grill, I don't think so. Oh and you don't press on burgers....but even they come out perfect......the only drawback was there is no on/off switch, but again is there one on a real grill?

this is only from what ive experienced on my foreman

1. dry seasonings tend to work better than dressings only because the dressings have a tendancy to run right off the food into the drip tray. marinades work very well however.
2. burning--just get used to how quick it cooks, a light rubbing of olive oil seems to help with mine though.
3. nope, don't have to spray...it's all good :)
4. mine has no timer or temp setting...which is a drawback, but i believe some of the newer models have one or both. oh, mine doesn't have an on/off switch, which i found annoying, but then i saw this nifty lil thing that plugs into the outlet then to the cord and it has a cool lil flick switch.
5. yes, it's very quick. all the nice juices stay in as long as you don't try to rush it by smooshing the top down on the food. and it doesn't compare with bbq, there's no way really to get the same smoky flavor...unless maybe adding a drop of liquid smoke to something...but i'm not entirely sure how that'll work
