Recipe for pizza burgers?!
Recipe for pizza burgers?
Back in the 1970's when I was just a child going to birthday parties alot of the parents served pizza burgers. It wasn't the pattie kind, it was hamburger ground up with some kind of cheese and spices served on half of bun. They were so good. Does anyone have the recipe?
Answers:
I make mine with pre-made burger patties, but put on some italian seasoning and chili powder, but not a lot. I use pizza sauce and mozzarella cheese and then broil the patties covered in the sauce and cheese for about 2 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly, and then use a spatula and put them on buns.
I made those this past weekend for a cookout, actually! :) They were a bigger hit than the regular "burgers and dogs"!
I don't know if this is what you are talking about, but there's a place I used to go to, they made sort of like a pattie, mushed up with Italian seasonings, and then melt mozzerella cheese and a spoon of tomato sauce over it. But it's still served over an open hamburger bun. . . . .Might be similar?
PIZZA BURGERS

Separate buns in half. Place on baking sheet. Ground hamburger in large skillet. Drain.
Add pizza sauce and mix together. Spread 1 tsp. of hamburger mixture on each bun.
Cut cheese slices in half and put on buns. Add 1 tbsp. of hamburger mixture on top of cheese.
Sprinkle each with mozzarella cheese to top. Add a dash of garlic salt and pepper.
Bake about 15 minutes. Feeds about 6-8 people.

I mix up my hamburger with jarred pizza sauce and italian breadcrumbs. I do mix up some shredded mozarella in the meat before I cook it. I also top it with sliced mozarella cheese. I use toasted frechbread.
you can do this 2 ways. The way I make mine are a hamburger pattie with pizza sauce and grated mozeralla cheese with mushrooms or you can do this with ground up loose browned ground beef and top with pizza sauce and mozarella cheese and mushrooms (optional) and you can set under the broiler just long enough to melt cheese. For kids parties you can make faces with the cheese and mushrooms.
I remember these from back in the 1970's when I was a kid...they also used to serve them at my high school cafeteria in the 80's with a side of fries (this was before the healthy food in Canadian schools iniative) the above recipe given by eric_aixelsyd is the correct one, served at birthday parties and similar, according to my mum...
