Culinary School????!


Question:

Culinary School????

hey every1...

I would love to go to Culinary school but im not a great cook...I know I would love cooking if I actually knew recipes and how to make things...So what I would like to know is: DO they TEACH you how to cook in Culinary school...or Is it for people who have talent for cooking..?

I know this may seem like a dumb question but I would still like an answer. thnx!

By the way, cooking is just a second route...I would like to get a degree in something else...Prob. buisness administration or sumthin like that and then if I feel i can I would like to attend culinary school.... The reason I write this is so that no one says "You can Do it"...Maybe the more appropriate thing would be "Good luck to you In 5-10 years"..Which is when I would like to go to C.S....

Thanx to whoever said Good luck....who knows maybe in a year(which is when I graduate Highschool) I may decide to go to Culinary School first and see how that works out for me..

There is no such thing as a dumb question - just not asking is dumb.Culinary school is for every one interested in bettering themselves,
I go to Phx. College's Culinary department. Yes - the Chef instructors get down and have you cooking,processing meat, baking breads,cookies and cakes. You will learn knife skills, techniques [I thought I knew how to handle a knife.] on things you may already know but they make things better. You will learn why this pot/pan is better than another. You will make friends, enemies, good and bad grades. It's wonderful.
All the courses here are accredited and can be transferred to places like NAU or ASU or other Arizona Colleges.
I'm sure the same is for out of state,different names. The thing is to make sure they offer classes that are accredited and transferable.As this applies to the Culinary Colleges in Scottsdale, They were just too costly and far for me to travel. Take a class or two at your local Community College see how you like it. If the recipes are all you think you need try foodnetwork.com as watching this got me really excited and wanting to do this. My opinion.

Yes they teach you how to cook and from chopping the veggies to a full 6 coarse meal. If it is something you want then do it. Now it depends on which school you go to as to how much you will learn so do your homework on a good school. Go for it....

I guess they teach yooh. I went to one... though I'm a horrible cook. The only way I can cook something good is when I'm in a group preparing something together. Lol.

Of course they teach you to cook, but anyone can learn to cook , but to have a career in cooking you have to have a love for it ,,, because it is an art ..... I believe in you ... peter.....

It depends on how much you want to cook and why. There are many programs out there that put you in a room for a few hours and teach you technique (boring to many but essential :) and prepare simple but impressive dishes. I went to Culinary school and I can tell you first hand that about 75% of the students would complain in "Purchasing or Wine and Beverage classes." They would always say "but I just want to cook!" You can do that on your own, to attend Culinary school, most aspire to becoming an Executive Chef. You must also realize the hours that go into the business, and stress. It's not as cut and dry as they make it seem on the Food Network, these chefs have paid there dues over many years of blood sweat and tears. I'm not trying to scare you but letting you know that it isn't an easy way of life for most people. But, if you love food and working in fast pace enviroment, and have a great sense of teamwork go for it. Hope I could help and best of luck to you!

I went to Le Cordon Bleu in Ottawa. When i went they had traditional instructors who did not go easy on you at all. You learn a lot about food and the kitchen culture, but not too much about non-food cooking issues like planning for large events or anything like that.
