How do you clean morel mushrooms?!

Question:

How do you clean morel mushrooms?

I've just bought some fresh morel mushrooms so I can cook them up for a salad. Noticing all the nooks and crannies I was wanting to know how I clean them before I cook them.

Answers:
Cut off the woody part of the stem. Then run them under cold water for a minute or two, gently rolling each one between your fingers to dislodge any dirt or other stuff from the textured surface. After washing, some folks also like to soak them in cold, lightly salted water for a little bit before cooking, but I'm not sure it adds much. You can chop them up or saute them whole, in a little olive oil (a tiny amount of finely minced garlic tossed in near the end wouldn't go amiss either). Enjoy!

Brush them off with a light brush.

just rinse them under cold water really well. you can also soak them over night in salt water. they are really good dipped in egg and flour and deep fried

rube them with dry flour

Just wash them well! You could shake 'em around in a baggie if you want, with water. I LOVE these babies!!! They grow around here, and every year we hunt for them and get them for free! My fav way to eat them is lightly sauteed in garlic butter... I SWEAR...it tastes like a steak! Enjoy! My mouth is watering!!!

Cut them in half lengthwise. They have hollows inside where sand and sometimes bugs can accumulate. You can wash the outside or not, it is up to you.
