Answers:
Put your chips in a aluminum package, poke holes on the package and put on the grill as it heats up it will smoke.

this may help........you can put them in an aluminum foil packet and poke some holes in the top of it and let that sit with what ur gonna barbeque.......not the same but it could work out....

You can use the aluminum but there is a piece of equipment called a "smoke box" where you put the chips in the box and put the box on the burners.

You can get one of those cheap aluminum roasting pans, soak your chips in water in the pan for an hour or so, pour off water and set over hot side of your gas grill. Place your meat or vegetables on the other side, close the lid. I don't recommend putting the aluminum pan of chips directly on the fire......just the hot side........let heat until smoky.
That roasting pan can be used several times, so even if it's yucky/dirty, just dump, rinse, and you can put more chips in for another use for a few more time.

you need to soak the chips first in water for about an hour

make a smoker pouch by wrapping 1 to 2 cups soaked wood chips in a sheet of heavy duty aluminum foil. Poke a few holes in the top with a pencil to allow the smoke to escape. Place the smoker pouch under the grate directly over one of the burners and run your grill on high until you see smoke, then reduce the heat to the desired temperature. Tip: The hottest part of many gas grills is the junction of one of the gas burner tubes and the pilot light or pilot burner. Place the smoker pouch here.

Take a piece of heavy duty aluminum foil, be sure to soak the chips, wrap them up real good, poke some holes in the top of the foil and place the package on the grill.

If you have an old cast iron skillet or other old heavy shallow pan you could place your soaked woodchips inside that and put that directly on the burners of your grill. I would do this before I tried aluminum- I've had bad luck with aluminum foil disentegrating in my grill.

Wrap the chips in heavy duty foil, poke holes in the foil package and place on grill, after several minutes they should start to smoke nicely.
