Question:

What foods can be cooked using only a steamer??

I am trying to eat more healthy food options , so i have purchased a steamer . can anyone tell me what foods can be steamed safely as i do not want to just eat vegtables .....can meat be steamed??... if so what kind..

any good simple recipes using a steamer will be welcomed or just a list of items that can be steamed....

Chicken can be steamed .Here's what you do

Steam Skinless Chicken Breast & Thigh add Sesame Oil ,Soy Sauce,crushed garlic ,Ginger .Steam for 30 mins & top with green Onions also you can steam chinese sausage along with the chicken & it will add good flavors!

Fish is excellent to steam. You can pretty much steam any type of fish. You can also try Hainanese chicken, that's a steamed chicken recipe with a ginger sauce. Shrimp, scallops and most seafoods are great steamed in foil, try to improvise on the seafood cioppino recipe... There are also rice cake recipes you can steam. Eat a wide variety of food to fulfill your nutritional requirements.

I just looked in the Joy of Cooking & it recommends just seafoods & veggies.

Pork & poultry can be poached for a more healthy choice.

Fish can be steamed to delicacy, but you have to be careful as if it overdone it will be rubbery and nasty. The best steamer food is clams. Wash them before hand to remove the residual sand, steam them and serve them as they are. They are often served with a butter and garlic sauce over them but they are usually steamed first.
