Depends on the quality of the meat. If you are using Cadbury's Smash and Tesco's Value sausages then bangers and mash is going to be fairly naff. Desiree potato mash with butter and onion with Cumberland sausage however is going to be pretty darned good. Similarly with Shepherd's Pie, lean mince is going to taste better then ASDA Special Price mince. Either dish is only as good as the ingredients with Shepherd's Pie having the slight advantage you can add a few veg to the recipe.

Depends on the recipe used - both my Shepard's pie or home made sausages knock any pre-made version into a cocked hat!
