I opened this question intending to help so I'm taking the 2 pts.
They are eaten both in Africa and in parts of England and Europe. The most common method for cooking hedgehog is to roll them in clay, bake them in a fire and then remove the hardened clay, taking the spines with it.
You cannot eat hedgehog gypsys use to eat it a long time ago and i know how to cook it but i aint telling you i think its disgusting someone phone the rspca
I dont think that you should..but..a method of preparation that has been used since ancient times is to cover a hedgehog with clay and bake it. The hedgehog is then removed and the clay cracked open, taking the spikes of the hedgehog with it
Great here's what you do
cover it in mud and bake on an open fire, I recon for about 45,mins should do but check a survial manual for more info or ask the parents.(you cover it over with hot coals) when you break off the mud (clay for preference) the spines come off et voila baked hedgehog.
Enjoy
As a side note though, hedgehogs keep the slugs etc down are you sure you want to kill it.
i may be wrong but Hugh Fearnly Eatsitall cooked hedgehog once.
Try one of his books
Have you tried asking the same question in AskJeeves.com? You are bound to find a recipe there, although personally I think you try and give your guests some local cuisine!
Please dont........give them an English delicacy!!
They probably get enough hedgehog in their country, I would think they will want to try good old American food. Make a nice barbeque with all the fixing. Hot dogs, cheeseburgers, potato salad, corn on the cob and baked beans, and watermelon! Don't forget the iced tea with lemon.
The recipes you have already are correct because someone on a recent chat show was talking about it and i thought they were joking but they were not. wait till you make a visit to them to try this out, im sure they will expect a local delicacy from your neck of the woods. let the poor thing go and cook british grub.
what surprises me more than you wanting to cook a hedge hog,Is the violent reactions your question illicited.Rasist? am i missing something?
(we dont have them here) but we aren,t opposed to eating Gods little wild critters, squirrel ,rabbit, racoons.opossum. we have whole cook books on how to cook such things.rule of thumb is when in doubt,STEW! drop your critter (cleaned and skinned into a pot with chicken stock, onions, and garlic.cook untill the meat falls off the bone, and discard them.add vegetables of choice.serve over rice.
but really now I have a better idea.Keep the hedgehog as a pet or let him go and make this instead.it,s less messy and maybe those angry people will go away.
