Question:

I need a recipe for a meat tenderizer....?

We recently got beef steak given to us, and the meat is veeeery tough. Does anyone know any good recipes for a tasty meat tenderizer that really works?
Thanks in advance!

There are a few things you can do with meat if it is too tough to enjoy on its own:

1) Marinate it. I think that is what you meant by tenderizer. Essentially what you do is use a marinade that is made of something acidic so that it soaks in and helps loosen the muscle in the meat to make it more tender. You don't want to use just acid (like vinegar or lemon) since then your meat tastes too sour or bitter, but you can mix in various spices, olive oil, garlic, and other great tastes that can be pulled into the meat along with the acids.

2) Tenderize it. This actually means that you take a meat hammer and pound the steak to loosen the meat. The "hammer" has a burled surface (like a bunch of little pyramids on it) that grind into the steak breaking apart the cartilage and muscle. This is good for making dishes like Chicken Fried Steak or Steak Diane.

3) Slow cook it. If you cook the meat for a long period of time over low heat, just about any meat will become tender.

At my house, we use the toughest cuts of beef and make a casserole called "Swiss Steak" (steak simmered for hours in tomatoes and peppers and served over a bed of rice or boiled potatoes) or we cut the meat into cubes and put it into a crock pot and turn it into a stew or soup.

Lots of recipes to chose from here

try a southwestern flavor with lime juice, cumin, little chili(fresh) and marinate in fridge overnight. mmmmm

I have tried making meat tenderizers and the only one that works is the one that is available in the grocery stores. The powdered meat tenderizing product, ask in the meat isle.

papaya is the best meat tenderizer, the enzyme papayina is used in most regular store tenderizers.
You can find papaya in your grocery store in the fruit section.
you just get the meat and cover it with slices of papaya, let it sit for and hour or so and that's it!
you remove the papaya and cook the meat as you like. The papaya does not change the meat flavor.

Meat Tenderizer's tend to have MSG. I would go with a beef marinade. I would use olive oil, soy sauce, garlic, some sort of acid like lemon or lime, ginger and salt & pepper.
