Question:

How can I make the color black out of the basic food coloring colors????

I want to make black and gray colored icing for my son's birthday cake this weekend...any ideas??

Answers:
you really cant, black is VERY difficult to make BUT do you have a micheal's craft store of a Joanns craft store?/ They very often carry food coring in powder or gel form. These are much better colors and almost ALWAYS have a great black to use. Cost a little more than the grocery store (about $4 a bottle) BUT VERY WORTH IT

used to work catering and make wedding cakes

i wouldnt use those colors it will stain their mouth's lol and they will be running around everywhere with black and gray mouths!

the only thing i could think of is squid ink... :(

plus i saw this for lollipops....look at the food coloring combo ratio...probably test that out...

In a small saucepan combine sugar, corn syrup, water,
and cream of tartar. Over medium-high heat, cook sugar mixture until it reaches a
temperature of 300 degrees F. Remove from heat. When mixture has cooled to 260 to
270 degrees F, stir in colorings and flavoring.

Cover the back of a baking pan with nonstick aluminum foil and arrange lollipop
sticks 3 to 4 inches apart. Carefully spoon or pour sugar mixture over the end of
lollipop sticks. If mixture becomes too thick, place pan over low heat and stir
constantly until it loosens up.

Let lollipops cool completely before touching. If you plan on keeping lollipops
for more than a day, wrap individually in cellophane pouches.

You cant. They have a black food coloring in the grocery stores now, it is put out by I think McCormick.

try mixing all the colors together

Using food colors, how do I make the color black?

Use 5 drops blue food coloring, 1 1/2 teaspoons red food coloring and 1 1/2 teaspoons green food coloring. However, this does not make a very intense black.
