Most Americans don't measure by weight when they're cooking. One cup is a specific measurement: measuring cups are available at any cooking store. They usually come in increments of 1/4 cup, 1/3 cup, 1/2 cup, 2/3 cup and one cup. There are different measuring cups for measuring liquids as opposed to dry ingredients. I try to measure by weight when I can because it's more accurate, but that's really not how it's done here.
Incidently, one cup of correctly measured flour should weigh about 112 grams. There is more information here: http://busycooks.about.com/od/howtocook/...
it's a precise measurement. you can actually buy a set of measureing cups they usually have a 1 cup, 1/2 cup, 1/4 cup sizes that come together in a set.
one cup is 16 0unces of anything.
They sell measuring cups which are clearly marked with the ounces at any kitchen supply store.
A cup is the amount of something you add to a recipe not the weight of it.
Hope this helps
An American cup is equal to 8oz.
If you are struggling, take a look in Asda- I know that they sell sets of measuring cups by the pots and pans for around 2-3 pounds
8 ounces = 1 cup
American receipes use exact measurements. You'll need a set of nesting measuring cups, measuring spoons and at least one liquid measuring cup.
It does not matter how heavier a thing is it just matters how much of that thing is in it. A cup of flour and a cup of beans are the same amount just a different weight. And no a teacup is not a cup of measurment
The American "Cup" measure is a precise Volume. It has nothing to do with weight.
1 CUP = 236.59 ml
look in a search engine for weight translators they really helped me
Juddles is right...when a recipe says "1 cup" this has nothing to do with weight, a cup is a volume measurement so in metric terms would be measured in millilitres (ml).
There's 236.59ml in 1 cup (info sourced from a handy website listed below).
