i have to cook a roast today and i have no idea how... please help me!!

Answers:
The best way to cook it, (after seasoning, vegetables, etc.) is to sear it in a pot or dutch oven on the stove. Add your liquid (most likely crushed tomatoes and some liquid, like water or even red wine) and simmer for about 3 hours. It will come out fork tender.

CHUCK it in the oven and ROAST it!!!

I cook mine in a pressure cooker; 10 pounds of pressure for 1 hour, and it comes out beautifully :-)

Put it in a roasting pan and bake at 350 for 2-3 hours
you may need to add water to it if the pan goes dry.
Just salt and pepper. Or put in a crock pot and cook 6-8
hours this is very good.

Chuck Roast is my fav roast.

Combine 1 can of cream of mushroom soup with 1 packet of dried onion soup mix and 1 cup of water.Mix well.Put roast in an oven pan and pour the soup mix in-it doesn't have to cover the roast.Cover the pan with a lid or aluminum foil.Bake at 350 degrees for about 3 hours.Sometime after it has baked for 1&1/2 hours I take it out and throw in some potatoes -peeled and cut in half, baby carrots and a few celery stalks cut up and then cover and continue cooking.

Do you have a slow cooker?

Roasts are a one pot deal, usually. Add about a cup and a half of water or wine to a large pot or your slow cooker and heat to simmer.

Sear the roast briefly on all sides in a saute pan, this will help seal in juices and add to the flavor.

Add two cloves of garlic, a large quartered onion, three stalks of chopped celery. I use about a teaspoon of salt and the same of freshly ground pepper to season, along with a handful of fresh chopped parsley, oregano, or sage. (your preference)

Chop another cup or two of carrots or just use peeled baby carrots, and wash a couple of pounds of new (baby) potatoes. Don't add these to the pot for a couple of hours or they'll just cook to mush.

For a slow cooker, it depends how large your roast is, usually there's a guide on the package as to how long it needs to cook. If it's around two pounds, it will need about 4-5 hours in the slow cooker.

If you're putting it all in a deep roasting pan in the oven, make sure it's covered (lid or foil) and check the liquids frequently during cooking. Roast in a 350 F oven until fork tender, shouldn't be more than two hours... Just keep checking it... If it looks dry add another half cup of water, use a baster and keep the top of the roast moist.

Same warning, don't add the vegetables until the last 30-40 minutes or you'll have mush. When the roast looks cooked all the way through but is still pretty tough, it's time to add carrots and potatoes.

I use the stab test for doneness. I stab into the center with a sharp knife and see if the juice runs clear. If it's still red, it's not done. When the juice runs clear, you're just playing a waiting game until the roast is fork tender. (comes apart easily with just a fork.) Keep it covered and keep basting or it will dry out.

When you take the roast and veggies out of the pan you can use the drippings and liquid to make gravy, but that's a little more complicated.

Good luck!

Pre-Heat your oven at 375. Season your meat with what ever you like (I like Tony's) then brown the roast on both sides in a heavy pot on top of the stove. Once the roast is brown add 1 can of beef broth and 1 can of Golden mushroom soup. Put in the oven for 2 hours when the roast is tender your done. Enjoy
