Cloves (Whole)
Cinnamon (Ground and whole)
Nutmeg (Whole)
Curry Powder
Cumin
Coriander
Chili Powder
Bay Leaves

Hot Pepper Flakes
Celery Seed
Celery Salt
Dill Weed
Ground Ginger
Rosemary
Apple Pie Spice
Pumpkin Pie Spice
Chives
Sage
Basil
Marjoram

Herbs Du Provence
Chinese 5 Spice Powder

Spend the extra for the spices and herbs in glass jars, they will taste fresher much longer. Store them out of direct sunlight & away from heat sources.

Pepper is very under-used.I never appreciated it's pungent taste (not just hot factor) until I bought and used a pepper mill with fresh pepper corns.

I love thyme for baked or sauteed chicken.

Lemon pepper for baked chicken/steaks/fish.

Cumin gives a smokey savoury flavor to dishes.

Oregano, basil, italian seasonings, but I think everyone has that already. =)

Hmmm, can't think right now off the top of my head. heheeee

Rosemary is awsome- chicken and potatoes
Fresh basil is good
try using fresh herbs if you can.
buy them and then freeeze what you don't use.

rosemary and lemon are my favorite. The thing is to get a book on all the spices and read what they do and try them using their medical remedies and have fun. Sometimes you donot know you like one with out trying them out.

You can never have to many spices.but basil,dry-ed parsley garlic powder flakes,ginger,thyme,oregano,ch... powder, bay leaf,sage,cinnamon,nutmeg,clov... and dill weed.I'm sure you'll get a thousand different answers as everyones taste and preferences are different---and they'll all be good.

I always have pepper, cumin, coriander, chilli flakes, turmeric, paprika, cardamom, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, allspice, mustard seeds, celery salt, juniper, szechuan pepper, fennel, star anise....and some more specialised ones.

Why can some people not tell the difference between spices and herbs?

EDIT- saywhat? poster - I just assumed that when the OP said 'spices' she meant 'spices'. Silly me, eh?

Kosher salt, black pepper, cumin, curry, and basil are what I MUST have on hand in the pantry at all times. In the summer I grow basil, cilantro, parsley, rosemary or thyme and sometimes mint in my garden for fresh herbs.

Penny, I'm sure the nature of this question was to different SEASONINGS. A category under which, both spices and herbs fall. LIghten up!

Montreal Steal Seasoning.. OH YEAH!

I found some dip mixes that work really good as spices

Fiesta party mix
Rockin Chipotle mix
Dreid Tomato & Garlic Pesto
and Seapmed Salt
they are great and I always make sure I dont run out!!
