Question:

For dinner, what side dishes goes with biscuits and gravy?

I know side dishes for breakfast with biscuits and gravy, but what about for dinner,I tried corn and stuffing but it just didnt seem right! any suggestions? thanks!

Answers:
Fried chicken or chicken fried steak/country fried steak. Just leave the meat out of the biscuit gravy and serve with any veggie you want, along with mashed potatoes.

Need a recipe? Here is one for the chicken fried steak. I also have a great picture you can see using the link.

Country Fried Steak Recipe
by Sue L

1 1/2 lbs cube steaks
1 cup all-purpose flour, plus
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour, divided
1 1/2 teaspoons salt, divided
1 1/4 teaspoons pepper, divided
1 teaspoon paprika
2 1/2 cups milk, divided
3 eggs, beaten
4 tablespoons oil
butter

1. Place 1 cup flour, 1/2 cup milk, and eggs in 3 separate shallow bowls in the working area.
2. Mix 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp pepper, and the paprika into the flour and mix well.
3. Season both sides of cube steaks with additional salt and pepper, if desired.
4. Dip cube steaks in milk, then dredge in seasoned flour.
5. Dip floured steaks in egg wash, then again in the seasoned flour.
6. Heat 2 tbsp oil in a large skillet on medium heat and do half the cube steaks at a time, or work with two skillets, if you desire.
7. Brown the cube steaks on each side, about 8-10 minutes total cooking time; remove from heat and set the steaks aside.
8. Drain all but 1 tbsp oil (if any- I don't usually have any, but the steaks are less greasy with less oil) from the pans.
9. Add enough butter to the pan to equal 3 tbsp along with the oil.
10. Melt the butter and add 3 tbsp flour and stir with a wisk to make a roux, deglazing the bottom of the pan, and cook for a few minutes on LOW heat; do not burn.
11. Slowly add the remaining 2 cups milk, and stir or whisk constantly until mixture comes to a boil and thickens; cook for another minute or so and remove from heat.
12. Serve Country Fried Steaks (Chicken Fried Steak, as we call it) with plenty of gravy on top, and mashed potatoes on the side (double gravy recipe if you use a LOT of gravy on your potatoes, etc).

corn maybe

I think mashed potato's and corn! its making me hungry now!

Fried apples and lima beans old south standards.

Canned corn or canned green beans. Also, some cubed potatoes pan fried with some onions. I think they are called country potatoes. If I were you, I'd add some cooked hamburger patty (whole) to the pan of gravy for a little country salisbury steak.

Mince and vegetables, cooked together.

Purple-hull peas and greens!

I would say corn or green beans ,What about some sausage in it like sausage bisquits and gravy.. YUM!

try a veg, like green beans

Potatoes would be good...although, that's a lot of starch...

Why not have the ol' breakfast for dinner trick? Works for me!! =)

it seems to me that biscuits and gravy are a side dish and what you need is an entree. what about chicken fried steak? and some sort of greens--okra if you want to stay in the southern mode.

Biscuits and gravy should be the side dish for a large piece of meat.

fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, peach cobbler and vanilla ice cream

Honestly, I would do American Fries with it. (Cooked potatoes, sliced into coins and pan fried until golden brown in a little butter with diced onions. Sprinkle with fresh thyme or parsley to garnish.) I know that's a lot of starch, but I think it would be a good accompaniment. And if you aren't worried about calories, well there ya go!! Just don't eat it every day. Haha.

This is my go-to when I'm in a pinch for a veggie:

Sauteed Spinach

2 bags of fresh spinach, washed
3 or 4 tablespoons of Olive Oil
2 large Garlic Cloves, crushed
Salt & Pepper to taste.

Heat a large skillet, and add the olive oil. The oil is ready when it shimmers. Add the garlic cloves & let it cook over a medium flame until the are light brown. Remove the garlic if you wish. Add the Spinach, it will sizzle & splatter because of the moisture, but this is what you want. Use tongs and gently turn the spinach, putting the hot, cooking leaves on top of the uncooked ones. It will wilt down considerably in about 5 minutes.
Season with salt & pepper & serve.

I think biscuits and gravy are side dishes. Do you eat meat? Some good fried chicken or some roast beef would be good with biscuits and gravy and maybe some buttered corn and a green salad. I usually plan my side dishes around the meat I am serving.

I love salmon patties with biscuits and gravy.......

Pork chops and sweet tea...good eating now....

Mashed potatoes!!
