Can i use a regular medium saucepan to bake a cake in?!

Question:

Can i use a regular medium saucepan to bake a cake in?

I need a certain diameter cake to create a theme birthday cake and the saucepan is the right diameter. Its handle isn't metal.

Answers:
You probably can, but may have to adjust your cooking time.
Before starting flick the pot upside down to see if there is a screw to hold the handle on. If there is remove the handle.
I always do that with my frypan when I make a frittata.

Its handle won't be there when its done.

uh, no.

probably wouldn't work out so well...

No, you'll melt the handle. It will stick in your oven and smell.

I have done it and everyone raved about my cake that I made in a saucepan.

The handle would probably melt in the oven. When my mother was a newlywed, she baked a pineapple upside down cake with the only skillet she had -- and it wasn't cast iron. The handle melted off and there was a terrible mess and smell in the oven.

What's the diameter you need? Would a coffee can work? Those can be baked.

I wouldn't try it. Just make a 9 x 13 size and then cut it down to the size that you need.

measure sauce pan go to store and buy that size cake pan dont put sauce pan in oven

What is the handle made of? I see why you'd think it would work, but only specially treated metal will withstand the heat of an oven for that long without burning up. I'd even have doubts about the saucepan itself - it's not likely to heat the batter evenly, for one thing. Handles are made to be kept cool so you can grab them off the stove if needed, and are usually made of wood or plastic, so there is no way that it would do anything but melt or burn in your oven. Please don't risk meltdown in your oven by trying this. Just go buy a cake pan. If the recipe turns out well, you'll want to make it again anyway.

If the handle is screwed on, then remove it, If not your out of luck it will melt. If you can remove it , then just make sure you butter and flour the inside of the pot before putting the batter in it.
