Do you buy them?!

Question:

Do you buy them?

ok so my question is DO YOU BUY COOKBOOKS either for yourself, your family, as gifts, whatever do you buy them and if so what about the cookbooks make you buy them?

Answers:
I buy cook books and the reason I buy them is because sometimes they are fundraisers or there are alot of interesting ideas.

no i never buy them

I found the best ones at yard sales.

I used to buy them all the time while standing in check-out lanes. I love the pictures. I quit, and now look recipes up online. Lots cheaper.

No, I don't. When you can download recipe on the web, there is no need to buy cookbook.

I've bought some and I have this really good website that I love. Check it out http://www.recipezaar.com/

Yeah, I buy them, but mostly just the ones from chefs on the Food Network. A lot of the recipes can NOT be found online.

I collect very old or antique cookbooks, and have also inherited cookbooks from my mom and grandmother when they passed away. As far as buying new cookbooks, I don't bother anymore because any kind of recipe I need I can get on the internet.

I occasionally buy them, thinking of the gift portion of your question. It might be neat if you put together your own collection of recipes and personalize the book to the person your giving it to.

I buy them mostly for the ideas. I hate to follow a recipe, so I take what they give me, add my own flair, and voila. I have a bunch of cookbooks, but I only open them when I'm not feeling creative or when I want to drool over the pictures.

I collect old cookbooks from ladies groups and churches - they are amazing. I only buy new cookbooks if they are in my area of expertise (I am a professional baker.) My husband is a professional chef, so we have all of his Culinary Institute of America textbooks and notes.

We have started to write down our own recipes.

i dont buy them for myself.. But its a good gift for a housewife i guess...

If you have a computer,it's kind of silly to buy cook books. Everything you could even need is available online(for free)

Some of us bought cookbooks before there were computers. Yes, you can find a recipe online, but at least in cookbooks it is well organized. I have recipes from the internet in so many different areas it's not funny. When I do buy a cookbook, I look for a book that has recipes similar to what I'm looking for. I don't want anything that takes a rocket scientist to make, it's just dinner. But I want recipes that look good just by looking at the picture. I have a Betty Crocker cookbook and it also has lower fat versions of some recipes in it and it lets you know the nutritional value of these recipes. As for buying as a gift.. think of the person's taste. Buy something they would like and be interested in, not what you like.

the only cookbook i own is better homes and garden and its good because it explains alot of cooking terms and has alot of "how-tos" but most of the recipes i use are from the internet.
