What goes well with mashed potatoes?
I am making mashed potatoes, and i don't want them just plain. What sauce or dish can I eat with them?
Answers:
Stewed beef.
I always add a few tablespoons of cream cheese and some garlic to mine! Yum!

Gravy
1. Get a can of instant meat (steak/turkey) gravy.
2. Chop up some onions and add them to a hot skillet with olive oil
3. Add some slices mushrooms, Chopped green beans and sme bbq sauce
4. Add the gravy
5. Sprinkle some pepper
Turkey, Macaroni, salad!
Corn!

I love steak with it if you goto T.G.i.fridays they have steak and potatoes they usually put scallions with in the potatoes
Garlic goes well with them.
Coarsely chopped green onions add a nice twang.
Sour cream has been put in potatoes successfully.
But the biggest and most important thing to consider when making mashed potatoes (in my opinion) is the gravy. Have lots and lots of good gravy.
Red potatoes with skins on, lots of garlic, use cream unstead of milk!!!
Basil pesto

Rosemary and goat cheese
Bacon and blue cheese
Roasted garlic
Horseradish
Smoked Gouda
Any of those combinations make great mashed potatoes
I like to make a basic country gravy with a litlle chicken boullion added to it and some fried cabbage.
Country Gravy
Melt four tablespoons of butter in a saucepan. Mix in two tablespoons of corn starch (or four tablespoons of flour) and add two cups of milk slowly, mixing as you add. Bring to a boil and add one teaspoon of chicken boullion.
Fried Cabbage
Chop a head of cabbage in small pieces and fry in butter. Season with salt, pepper and garlic powder.
Fried chicken, cream gravy and hot buttered biscuits. Yummy!

Mashed potatoes, baked beans, few pork sausages and bacon rashers...can't beat it!
Rooster Potatoes are the best to mash if you can get them (they're the ones with the reddish skins).
Might not be the fanciest meal but it's damn tasty!!
