Are wooden utensils safe for Teflon pans?!

Question:

Are wooden utensils safe for Teflon pans?

I know that metal utensils are harmful to Teflon coated pans, but I'm convinced that wooden utensils are safe, because wood is so soft. However, my boyfriend was not happy this morning when I used a wooden spoon to make scrambled eggs in his fancy Teflon pans. Anyone have a definitive answer on this one?

Answers:
Yes, you're supposed to use wood or plastic on Teflon pans. You're right that metal is bad to use, and can scratch the coating off the pan, but wood is the chosen utensil for most people using Teflon pans. If your boyfriend doesn't believe you, tell him to watch any chef on The Food Network, they all use wooden utensils on their pots and pans.

yes. I use them all the time.

Yes they are fine to use. Very safe will not damage the Teflon.

Have fun cooking.

As long as they're smooth and don't have rough spots on the utensils that can scratch.

He should stop complaining and be happy you're making him breakfast!

wooden spoons are the best for non stick cookwear.

Wood utensils are fine on Teflon, but making scrambled eggs with a spoon? Try a heatproof Rubbermaid spatula (dark red handle) with a little milk and herbs from Penzey's.
