Identify and explain the purposes of cooking.?!

Question:

Identify and explain the purposes of cooking.?

Answers:
Cooking is the act of preparing food for ingestion. The term cooking encompasses all methods of food preparation including non-heated methods. It encompasses a vast range of methods, tools and combinations of ingredients to alter the flavor or digestibility of food. It is the process of selecting, measuring and combining of ingredients in an ordered procedure in an effort to achieve the desired result. Factors affecting the final outcome include the variability of ingredients, ambient conditions, tools, and the skill of the individual doing the actual cooking.

The diversity of cooking worldwide is a reflection of the myriad nutritional, aesthetic, agricultural, economic, cultural and religious considerations that impact upon it.

Cooking often requires applying heat to a food, which usually, though not always, chemically transforms it, thus changing its flavor, texture, appearance, and nutritional properties. There is archaeological evidence of roasted foodstuffs, both animal and vegetable, in human (Homo erectus) campsites dating from the earliest known use of fire, some 800,000 years ago. Other methods of cooking that involve the boiling of liquid in a receptacle have been practiced at least since the 10th millennium BC, with the introduction of pottery.

Hope this helps! =)

Note to JGG, you brillantly answered by copying and pasting from Wikipedia, which is not the point of Yahoo Answers.

It was another use for fire that caveman found. It gave warmth and light on cold and dark nights. He more than likely found by accident that when a cold raw piece of meat fell in the fire that warm food is better than ice cold food. It has been refine form that point to what you have today.

Instead of a cut and paste answer, why not make it simple? The purpose of eating is so we don't starve. We starve, we die. Simple enough?
