How long do I cook this pot roast?!
How long do I cook this pot roast?
I have a 3.34 pound Chuck Roast that I'm going to put in a pot to boil. I want to know if anyone knows how long I should let it cook? I'm using my Mother's recipe but it doesn't say how long it should cook. Asking my Mother isn't an option.
Thanks!

3 to 5 hours on low (simmering heat). The longer the better. Chuck roast is a really tough cut of meat. You want it to be basically falling apart. That's when you know its done.
You can also do that in the oven as well. 400 for at least three hours. Add the veggie potatoes etc about an hour before eating. Other wise they will turn into mush as well.
It takes about 15 minutes a pound to boil. This releases and breaks muscle fibers.
First of all, don't boil the whole thing or it'll be rubbery. If you cook it on the stove top, you want to bring it up to a simmer (just under a boil), then reduce your heat a bit. I usually cook my roasts in the oven at 350 degrees for about three hours to get the meat nice and tender. It usually can be cut without a knife.
This certainly depends on how tender you want it. May I recommend that you sear it in a pan on all sides before you drop it into the boiling water this will seal the meat and preserve flavor and juiciness. boil for 2 to 2 1/2 hours.
