Question:

How do i get sand out of clams before cooking them?

Answers:
Do put them in saltwater (or seawater), but add a little cornmeal to the water. It will clean them out.

I put them in a bucket with sea water, if you are on the beach, or at home just use fresh water, for a few hours, that gives them a chance to cleanse themselves.

let them sit in salt water for a few hours, then change and do the same again. If you don't have access to natural sea water.......add sea salt to regular water......1/4 per gallon.

you don't...

My grandmother used to soak them in salt water and liberally sprinkle cornmeal into the water. The clams take in the cornmeal, wrap it around the dirt inside and spit it out again. As her clams were rarely gritty, I'm assuming it worked!
