Is It true that marshmallows are made of fish gelitan??
I saw it on a wrapper and i dont know if its true or not!!
Answers:
I looked at my marshmallow package, and it does list "gelatin", but it doesn't specify what type.
So if you are a vegan, don't eat it--gelatin is a bone by-product.
yes, but if you put them in the microwave for 30 seconds they get really big
True as all get out, ha''
Some brands are from fish, but the most common gelatine (jello) is made from boiling the skin, bones, ligaments and tendons of slaughtered cows or pigs. You can make vegan marshmallows with agar agar. I dont understand why dead animals have to be in everything! Its so unnecessary.
No, not just fish; some gelatin is made from cow hooves and skin!
Yummy, eh?
Gelatin is contained in marshmallows. Gelatin is made from animal bones.
If the marshmallows you made have fish gelatin listed as an ingredient, they probably use this so that the marshmallows can be approved as kosher. Gelatin made from fish* bones is kosher; gelatin made from the bones of cattle that has not been slaughtered in a kosher manner or pork is not kosher.
If gelatin grosses you out, go to your local health food store and ask if they stock vegan marshmallows.
* - kosher fish
