tofu
marinade
oil
Cut the tofu lengths into cubes and place into marinade for a minimum of 30 minutes.
Remove from the marinade and dust the tofu cubes with flour.
Heat the oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
Shallow fry the cubes until all sides are golden brown and crispy.
Serve hot with rice or couscous and a puddle of the marinade as a dipping sauce.
you can use a varity of marinades-soy sauce-italian dressing or plain old BBQ sauce
personally I don't marinate-for a snack or party -I cube and roll in flour that I've added spices to (Mrs. Dash, garlic,italian-your fav) then fry in oil till lightly browned and serve with your fav. dipping sauce (BBQ-honey mustard-etc)
i just made some today for the first time.
1st i mashed the tofu, so it kind of resembles cooked scrambled eggs. then i added olive oil onto a hot skillet, sautèd some chopped onions and peppers for several minutes, then added salt & pepper. finally i added the mashed tofu and mixed all together and cook for another 5 minutes. it was delicious!
FRIED TOFU
2 blocks tofu
3/4 c. tapioca starch
Oil for deep-frying
Salt to taste
Hoisin sauce
Coriander or chopped green onions for garnish
Cut tofu into blocks 1 x 1 x 2 inches. Dredge each piece into tapioca starch until all surfaces are covered thoroughly. Let stand for 10 to 15 minutes. Deep-fry 3 to 4 minutes at high heat until each piece is about 3/4 done. Remove and drain on a rack or paper toweling. Just before serving, repeat dredging and deep-frying steps, only frying the pieces until golden brown and crispy. Salt lightly. Slit each piece lengthwise and put Hoisin sauce into each slit to taste. Garnish with coriander or green onions and serve.
