Can you put a stainless steel pan in the oven?!

Question:

Can you put a stainless steel pan in the oven?

My boyfriend's mom told me you can't. She was like, "I hate to say this to you , but you can't put my stainless steel flat cooking pan in the oven." WHY?

Answers:
She was mistaken...you can put SS pans and pots in the oven.

I have stainless steel pans solely for the purpose of cooking on the stove top and finishing in the oven. My non-stick pans are not used in the oven.

Most stainless-steel pans can go into the oven. However, if her pan had a plastic handle or grips, it wasn't oven-safe. You could look on the bottom of the pan and it should be stamped into the base if it is 'oven-safe' or not.

Handles may not be oven safe.

well !
mm idk !!! i think it would be ok i mean hello ? what kind of question is that ! lol jk !!

The only reason she doesn't want you to put it in the oven is she's afraid the high temperature and long cooking time will make it difficult to clean. She wants the stainless steel to remain shiny with no brown marks or discolorations. Good stainless steel cookware is expensive. When you get it marked up you have to use a special powder cleanser and a lot of elbow grease because you can't use the abrasive side of a sponge to clean it, it would get scratch marks and become dull looking.

You can put a stainless steel pan in the oven. She just didn't want you putting HER stainless steel pan in the oven for some unfathomable reason. Good luck with her.

If it is totally stainless steel, then of course it can go in the oven. If it has plastic or rubber handle then of course not.

Maybe her reason was she just did not want it in the oven, it is hers and she can do what she wants but there is no sound reason why it could not go in the oven.

If the handle isn't plastic or wood, but steel then yes you can.I know my Mom baked in her Magnalite pots for years.thanks for 2.
