HELP! What can I substitue for white wine?!

Question:

HELP! What can I substitue for white wine?

I am cooking for my mother-in-law and she prefers not to eat anything cooked with wine. Almost all of the recipes I am finding have some sort of wine in the ingredients list. What do I do?

If she likes the flavor of the wine but doesn't like the alcohol, use sparkling white grape juice (normal grape juice tastes way too sugary to substitute for wine), but if she doesn't like wine at all, substitute some broth or stock for flavor (chicken stock for chicken, beef for beef, veggie for veggie, ect). Sometimes depending on the recipe you can just use water, but stock is much tastier.

You can either just leave it out or replace it with some chicken broth.
The wine is included to help enhance flavors of the dish.
Very seldom is the wine used as the main liquid in a dish.
Hope that helps.

It depends on what you are making, but often chicken broth is a fine substitute.

It depends a lot on which sauce you're making. When I make a vinaigrette, I often replace the vinegar with a citrus juice (tangerine or clementine juice works really well) because it's less acidic, and so I use less oil. So if it's a place where you want the acidity of the wine, various juices work. If you want the complex flavor of a red wine, try making your own brown sauce and using that instead. Or just a rich beef stock, which is very similar.

Try with cognac that makes the flavour of cooked recipes to be more tender and more aromatic, also you can try with brandy who gives cooked food a more tastefull and splendid flavour and taste!

Good Luck and you can try with that substitutes and everytime I cook the food with them it suits perfect for it!

Go ahead and see ya!

Try using Saki

Depending on the recipe you can substitute apple cider in equal amounts. I hope this helps, and good luck with your MIL!

Will she really know it was put in?The alcohol usually cooks out and the flavor stays.i would say if its a chicken based recipe, then use that amount or chicken broth(beef the same).Hope this helps...

it is all according to your preferences, you can use anything from an apple or grape juice (non fermented) to water. of course chicken broth is always an answer but i prefer chicken stock (available at most grocers like kroger or publix) it is in a box in the soup aisle. we occasionally use this in place of wine in scampi or similar applications that call for a reduction.

You can use chicken or vegetable stock w/ 1 tbs white wine vinegar (not plain white vinegar) added.
