Recipe measurement question?!
Recipe measurement question?
Original recipe calls for:
2 1/2 cups self-rising flour
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
I do not have self rising flour...
The "tip" said if you don't have self rising flour, use 1 cup flour, 1 1/2 tsp baking powder, 1/2 tsp salt = 1 cup self rising flour.
(The tip is for 1 cup self rising flour, I need 2 1/2 cups.)
MY QUESTION: What is the TOTAL amount of flour, baking powder, and salt that I need for this entire recipe? I only want to measure each ingredient once.
Is anyone better with numbers than me?? THANKS SO MUCH! :)
Answers:
for the self rising flour you need:
2 1/2 cups flour
3 3/4 tsp baking powder
1 1/4 tsp salt
so total you need:
3 cups flour
4 3/4 tsp baking powder
1 3/4 tsp salt
for each one cup of self rise flour you need 1 cup flour, 1 1/2 tsp baking powder and 1/2 tsp salt. do that 2 times and on the thrid time cut it all in half. Simple
so you need 2 1/2 cups of flour, 3 3/4 tsp of baking powder and 1 1/4 tsp of salt.
Why not make up, say, 4 cups of the improvised self-rising flour? Measure out what you need and keep the rest in a jar or a ziplock for the next time.
2-1/2 cups flour
1-1/4 tsp salt
3-3/4 tsb baking powder
I would not bake the recipe till i had the correct amount of ingredient it call for, it will not turn out right
you have to be precise in baking.no good will come from substitution baking.
if you can't add fractions maybe you shouldn't be improvising your recipes
