What does Vanilla do for baking!!!?!?!?
my friend and i were making cookies and he had no vanilla. i said it doesnt do anything but highten the sweetness so we should just add more sugar and it was a long argument..the cookies turned out quite good but i still wonder what vanilla does in baking.

Adds flavor. Just like cinnamon or nutmeg would do..
not necessary but very delicious =). The vanilla used in cookies is actually just an extract.. just a replica of real vanilla from pods that has a much stronger, sweeter flavor.
it adds a vanilla flavor
it makes things yummy
flavor... basically it
it flavors it, vanilla flavor. just like almond extract makes the cookies taste like almonds. it doesn't really sweeten though.
In baked goods, the flavor of vanilla can be quite subtle, but if you don't have it in there there's a certain something missing. It gives the final product some extra complexity, and makes things taste a little richer. It doesn't add any perceptible sweetness.
its vanilla flavoring . . . makes it taste like a hint of vanilla
I say nothing really, it just adds flavor. Glad your cookies turned out. Can I have one.
