Roast Turkey?!

Question:

Roast Turkey?

I'm roasting a turkey and I've never cooked one unstuffed before. How many minutes per pound do I cook it? I know it's different if it's stuffed.

Answers:
Look on the wrapper for basic cooking instructions - I can
tell when it is done if the thigh pulls away from body and
the meat is not pick anymore.

12-15 minutes per pound

I think it's 1/2 hour for every pound of turkey...don't remember what temperature, though...

If you are worried about an unstuffed turkey being dry, I would really recommend that you try brining the turkey before you roast it. Basically, a brine is 1 gallon of water, to 1 cup of kosher salt and 1/2 cup of brown sugar (it's not 'salty' like you would think). When you soak your turkey in a brine for 12-24 hours, it plumps the muscle fibers with the liquid and makes it come out much more juicy when you cook it.

The first time I brined a turkey, I swore that I would never cook one again without brining it, it turned out so well!

Turkey should be cooked at 150C-180C (325F-350F) for 15 minutes per lb
