yupyup--- My experience as a baker tells me
you should forget the apple sauce mayo.ect. and go with the shortening at room temperature. use the same amount you will never know the difference in fact it should work better
I have always used shortening in bread dough. I hope this is in time to help you out .
if not try it later. jim b

You can try it, but the texture of the bread will be very different.

Shortening is basically just veg. oil, so I would imagine it would be fine. Try nuking it for 30 seconds or so to liquefy it so it will mix properly.

You can also substitute apple sauce for the oil for a low fat version of any recipe that calls for veg oil.

Applesauce works great and is way healthier as well.

Melted margarine would do. (or mayo, or applesauce)
