What is a healthy dessert for after dinner?

Just remember, sweet doesn't always have to mean "bad!" The key, in my opinion, is not to over do it. Here are some super simple ideas for fairly healthy after dinner treats:

Fresh strawberries with low fat cool whip or whipped cream

Fresh bananas, half dipped in chocolate

Fruit with yogurt for dipping

Low fat vanilla ice cream or frozen yogurt, with various toppings. Try granola, dried fruit, or one of my old favorites, a crumbles up fruit and grain bar, such as nutrigrain.

Baked apples with cinnamon

Oatmeal raisin cookies

Fruit and jello with a little whipped cream

Low fat pudding, with vanilla wafers

Be creative!

Hope this gave you some ideas. :)

You cant go past fresh fruit.... orange, pear, strawberries are nice... especially if you dip them in chocolate. Cooking apples are nice served with sharp cheese. Also there are some lovely gourmet yogurts available.

sorbet.

LOW FAT FRUIT SALAD WITH POPPY SEED
DRESSING

1 (8 oz.) can pineapple tidbits (juice pack)
1 1/2 c. sm. strawberries or seedless red grapes
1 med. apple, cored and cut into bite size pieces
1 (10 1/2 oz.) can Mandarin orange sections (water pack, drained)
1/2 c. pineapple low-fat yogurt
1/2 tsp. poppy seed
Lettuce leaves

Drain pineapple, reserving 1 tablespoon of the juice. If using strawberries, cut them in halves. For the fruit mixture, in a medium bowl, combine the pineapple, strawberries or grapes, apple and orange sections. Toss lightly to mix.
For dressing, combine yogurt, poppy seed, and the reserved pineapple juice. To serve, line salad plates with the lettuce leaves. Arrange fruit mixture on lettuce. Drizzle dressing over fruit.

well really healthy fruits like watermelon
or
italian ice/ice cream

My favorite healthy desert is 1 softened bar of fat-free cream cheese and one tub of fat-free or sugar-free cool whip mixed together will. Toss in all of your favorite fruits (I usually use a can of mandrain oranges, some sliced cherries, sliced strawberries and a can of crushed pineapple). Serve right away or refridgerate for a bit. For something a little different I'll use the strawberry or chocolate flavored cool whip or serve over angel food cake. It lasts in the fridge for a 3-4 days.

A vanilla frosty float from Wendy's

I like to buy an angel food cake (the kind that are round), slice it across its middle so you have three round layers. Spread the bottom layer with fat free cool whip and sliced fresh strawberries. Add the middle layer, more cool whip, more strawberries, then top with the top layer. You can also use bananas and strawberries, just bananas, fresh or canned peaches, etc. I also like this made with sugar free vanilla pudding or vanilla pudding made with skim milk.
Enjoy!

I have a recipe for a butternut squash souffle that is made with Splenda. It is healthy, low in fat and calories and is absolutely DELICIOUS! It tastes like a combination of pumpkin pie and pumpkin bread. I made it for Thanksgiving two years ago in place of the typical sweet potato casserole, and it has been in high demand ever since. My kids even love it, and they don't like anything! If you are interested in the recipe, email me, and I'll provide it for you. I have an entire book of desserts made with Splenda, and although I haven't tried them all, every one that I've made has been truly amazing.

Here's a few of my favorites:

+ Grilled fruit: pineapple, peaches, pears
+ Mix Marshmallow fluff with sour cream until it's about as thick as icing and use it to dip your fruit in
+ Sugar free chocolate pudding mixed with cool whip (fold in the cool whip to make a really fabulous mousse) you can add cookie crumbs if you're feeling spunky
+ Peel some apples (or any other fruit) and put it in a pan with a little bit of brown sugar and put it over yogurt or ice cream

Store boughten angel food cake..or homemade...iced with sugar free jello pudding of any kind.

Fruits like banana, strawyberries and pineapple are good in vanilla low fat icecream with nuts. A healthy choice and its very good. Chocolate isnt really needed in this case because the good fruit is good enough. Try it...its delicious.

Try fresh organic fruit like berries or try a smoothie but use freshly squeezed orange juice fresh friut and instead of sugar or honey in it try adding a spoonful of lowfat vanilla yogurt
