Help with grilling Porterhouse steaks please?
Two steaks that are about an inch think on a charcoal grill - any help on when to put them on the grill (as far as the temp of the coals) and then for how long - Thanks!
Answers:
After the flames have died down and the coals are turning white, spread the coals out in an even layer. Then throw the steaks on. For 1", cook 5mins each side for medium-rare. 6mins each side for medium. 7minutes each side for medium-well. OH....and be sure to let the steaks come to room temp before putting them on the grill. That's really important. (Leave them out on the counter for about 1/2 hour to do that) Once cooked, let the steaks sit at least 5 minutes on a plate before you cut into them so that the juices can distribute into the meat. Don't go cutting into the steak to check for done-ness. This will cause all the juices to spill out and you'll lose the flavor, moistness and tenderness of the meat.
Yum, that sounds good! Enjoy!
how do u want them cooked? put them on the grill when the coals are hot but not flaming. keep turning them over so all the juices stay in the steak. if u see they are brown on the outside cut in to them when u see the color u want take them off. try to go for pink.
make sure the coals are glowing, but no flame, if you want to sear the outside you can put them on when the flame is low, but remove after about a minute so they dont burn. Also when you make any kind of grilled meat, set on the counter for at least 30 minutes to get meat at room tempurate before grilling, this will make your meat not stick to the grill. let meat rest after taking off the grill for at least 5 minutes. you can also test the meat but cutting a small slit in it, and see if its too your liking. good luck
