Tuna steak?!

Question:

Tuna steak?

i have a yellow fin tuna steak, how should i cook it, should i marinate it first?

Answers:
Treat it like you would a meat steak.

Bake it and yes marinate it first

I say no. Tuna has a distinct flavor that you'll loose if you marinate. Try lime and baking it.

I like them grilled over high heat with nothing but salt and pepper. MAYBE a little sesame oil after cooking.

If you have to use something else, try making a wasabi paste with sesame seeds to coat them before grilling. If the paste survives the grilling process they're great.

Please don't maranade it, though.

And please resist the urge to cook in any more than medium rare. I don't care what anyone says; a well done tuna steak may as well be a piece of shoe leather.

Grill( or shall I say seer) over high heat. The inside should be a little rare. Do not over cook or it will be dry and a little chewy. If you want to add anything to the tuna make it herbs and spices before cooking. No marinade. You can ad a sauce, fruit salsa, infused oils ect after the cooking. It will continue to cook until it reaches room temp.

I like them blackened, best done out doors. Get some blackening season and follow diretions, heat black iron skillet til smoking hot put tuna steak on about 30-45 seconds on each side and enjoy.

ps Any left overs flake up and make tuna salad just like you would with canned tuna, delicious.

You could blacken or sear it both ways are good. Another way to do it is to marinate it a sweet teriyaki sauce for about 1/2 an hour. Pat dry, then dredge in flour, dip in egg wash, and finally coat with panko (japanese bread crumbs). When cooking it try to use a little higher heat that normal because what you want is the breading to be golden brown but the inside of the ahi (yellowfin) to be rare.
