Deep Frying a Turkey for the 1st time - any suggestions?!

Question:

Deep Frying a Turkey for the 1st time - any suggestions?

We are going to deep fry a turkey tomorrow - using one of those fryers with the propane tank out in the driveway. I bought an injectable marinade that is garlic & herb flavored, but what else do I need to do to season it? How much oil & for how long do we fry? It's a 13 - 14 lbs........Any suggestions appreciated - suggest some sides, too please

Thanks for the help!

You need to do a test run with the oil level first. Fill your pot with water and drop the bird in the water. If the water overfills then you will need to take some out. Mark on the outside of the pot with a marker for oil level. Make sure you leave about 6 inches or more for the oil to expand when you have the oil to 350 degrees. Now for the flavoring a injector is great to use. I use beer, butter, poultry seasonings, salt, pepper.

yes, a lot of times the cooking times underestimates how long the turkey should be cooked. we did 3 or 4 turkeys last thanksgiving and christmas and we always had to cook our birds a littlle longer than it stated. use your thermomiter and prick it to see if the juices runs clear. your seasonings should be just fine as long as you don't use seasonings containing sugar because your turkey will turn black and so will your grease. be extremely careful when frying and enjoy!

Use a tall slender cooing vessel and it will take less oil. Fill just above half. Use Peanut Oil only. 3 minutes to the pound or untill bird floats. Get oil to 400 before putting in bird and keep it at this temp while cooking. It will float when done. You should have an inserted lift in the bird before it is imersed to allow you to lift it when it is done. The oil

I am sorry but I don't know how.

Be extremely careful, I saw Elton Brown do this on Good Eats and the whole thing caught fire.
