Can you roast chilies in the oven?
if yes how so?
Answers:
my mom likes to buy whole dry mexican chilies and roast them in the oven for about 10-15 minutes @ 350 degrees. But be very careful!! When you open the oven it can make your eyes burn.
definately. Depends what you cook it with.
To add spice on your roasted stuff, you could put it in your roast i suppose. Usually we dry chilly under the sun for awhile though.
I'm not too sure. I don't really cook complicated stuff like roasting stuff... :p
How else would you roast something? Check out foodnetwork.com - they have awesome recipes and how-to's. I know you can, (I think Alton Brown showed how to do it, so look for him on foodnetwork.com)I just don't quite remember how. But that is where I would look.
You could use the broiler setting (intense heating element located on top oven wall) and place the chilies close enough to char, but not burn/flame. You should keep the oven door open ajar and closely monitor the process.

Hi there and good day before all, I'm Mexican and the best way to roast chilies ("chiles") it's to put them over an iron plate ("comal" in Mexico, or a grill could work fine too, but its best with COMAL) over fire. This process is called "torear los chiles" (bullfight chilies) and is to make the chilies take a different flavor (most of the times more hot spicy). It's not recommended if you not used to do hot spicy food.
Just let it makes some little toast skin spots, when it has inf one side turn it in other position that does not. Until they are toasted for every side. Then retire it from the iron plate or grill, and if you prefer take out the chili skin by hand nut fist of all put olive oil on your hands to don't get in trouble with chilies.
If you wanna make a hot sauce just put in this relation: 2 chilies, 1/2 onion, 1 or 2 garlic part, 2 boiled red tomatoes and a cup of water into a mixer. Mix until you have a consistent past or add more water if you want.
In the oven if it is electric could be done, if not it just will cooked. But take caution because any process to roast chilies will produce toxic gas, not to worry they just could get you cough and itching eyes. It a chili property
