Where can i buy horseradish?!

Question:

Where can i buy horseradish?

I keep seeing top chefs using/grating horseradish but have no idea where I can buy it..........in the UK.

Answers:
If you have a produce market, like a fresh air market, they may have it. Especially if they sell organic produce. We can buy it in the store here in the US at some local grocery stores.
I have to add that it doesn't look at all like what you see the chefs with. It will look like a dirty parsnip, clean it well and peel the tough outer skin and grate. And from experience, if you are going to grate your own, use a separate blender designated only for horseradish, It will ruin it for anything else. I usually buy it in the jar, it's just easier and it tastes the same.

grocery store?

In the US most large grocery stores carry it in the produce section

It's in the condiments isle at your grocer. It comes in little jars, like pickles.

tesco, asda, aldi, co-op,morrisons, take your pick

In the states you find it in the condiment section of most grocery stores. Call around before you leave the house, in case where you are they don't all have it.

1. Fresh, in the produce department. It is a root. You will have to grate it yourself and it is vicious..

2. In the refrigerated section at the grocery store. That is prepared, and it comes in various strengths.

The best place to find it is at a whole foods market. I see it once in a while at my local grocery, but it's not always in stock.

Any supermarket should have it. Ask someone in your grocery store for it.

Try an outdoor market or Farmer's market to see if they have it fresh, but bottled is just as good.

Good luck!

You can buy fresh horseradish in the produce section of most larger supermarkets if you want to grate it yourself. If you want the prepared stuff...it is in the cold section near the cheese, yogurt, etc.

In any food shop....

like asda,tesco,sainsburys,waitrose... local corner store.

where do you shop ?

dude..GROW it! It grows like a weed in Northern (cold) climes and is SO easy to make! I have a stub from the root of a plant that my brother in law's family brought over from Poland in the 1920's! All you do is shove it in the ground! Every two years you dig up the root, peel it, throw it in the food processor or blender with some vinegar and put it up is a canning jar! WARNING it is HOT when first made but mellows with time. Combined with some Nayonaise (soy mayo) and Dijon and a little soy milk makes a FAB salad dressing! God, I just dug my roots and made two pints (You are from the UK, you definitely know what a pint is despite the Metric system!)
Call your Polish/Russian friends!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your local grocery store will have it just ask them.

If you can find a Greengrocer shop they should have it in then vegetable part. But there are not many traditional Greengrocer's about now

grocery store

Any of the major supermarkets should have it. I have seen it in Tesco's, but Sainsbury's, Waitrose and others, also try Farmers Markets, and good greengrocers.

Horseradish is a perennial and roots are usually dug up in the autumn, so unless it's been stored you will most like find it then. Best used with caution as it is powerful stuff.

Difficult in England, but could be ethnic shops do it. Or specialist veg shops, farm shops. Be careful though it is powerful stuff - worse than onions to handle. Certainly clear your sinuses but lovely.

Polish stores have it.
