How to boil an egg? i need it for waldorf salad?

Answers:
best way, guaranteed......

put eggs in a pot. cover eggs with cold water. place on stove, bring to a boil. cover, remove from heat. let stand (covered) 15 minutes. dunk in cold water to stop cooking.

foolproof, and you'll rarely get that nasty grey ring!

bring h2o to a boil and then put whole egg in and boil for ten to twelve minutes. let them cool in a bowl or pan in cold water before you crack and peal it!

okay this is how i learned
you take a pot a small one i meen u dont want a freaking chili pot to boil eggs well u take a pot thing and u fill it like half full of water and then u GENTLY put your eggs in there and then u kick on the burner and when the water starts boiling u take them out and rinse them off with cold water and then u peal the shell off

make sure u read other peoples answers first and see if they are kinds similar cuz i dont wanna screw up your salad

=]

you can just watch your mom do it! i learned how to boil by watching her............

For best results, start with eggs that don't have any visible cracks.

Bring your eggs to room temperature before cooking. You can warm up cold eggs by running them under warm tap water. By bringing the eggs to room temperature, they're much less likely to crack in the hot water.

In case small cracks do develop, add salt to the cooking water. The salt will help to decrease the amount of egg white that gets into the water. Use at least a tablespoon of table salt per two quarts of water.

Place them in a single layer in a pan with enough cold water to cover eggs completely (approximately by 1 1/2 inches). Bring the water to a boil, remove from heat, cover tightly with a lid, and allow to remain in the water approximately 12 to 15 minutes. (This is for a large egg, adjust the time for your egg sizes)

Watch the time when cooking the eggs carefully. Overcooking causes a green layer to form around the yolk.

When done cooking, place under running, cold water to cool quickly. This will assist with the peeling process.

I agree with Willa's answer but I only let them sit in the water for 10 minutes then rinse and dunk in ice water. This stops the cooking process and avoids that stinky discolored ring around the yolk.
How egg-citing! Egg-celent answer! I'm just yolk-ing.

1. My favorite way to boil eggs is put them in a pot covered with cold water. Bring them to a boil. As soon as the water is boiling, cover the pot, remove from heat, and let them sit for 20 minutes. Then cover with cold water, remove from pot and let them finish cooling. Slightly older eggs peel easier than fresh ones. When ready to peel, I crack them up on the counter a bit, and then roll them in my hands to release the egg from the skin, and then the shell comes off much easier.

2. No, you don't put them in a Waldorf salad.

well, i cook a lot of eggs and this is a old time remedy that really does work.1st. put water in a pan. 2nd. put a tablespoon of salt to make it easier for the egg to peal . 3rd. then leave it in the boiling water for at least 15 to 20 minutes or when you see the egg cracked a little. 4th. then take them and put them in the sink and run cold water over them. 5th. then start to peal under the water so the shells will come off easier. hope this helps...good luck

put the egg in a pot of water and a dash of salt and let it boil for 15 minutes. run the egg under cold water to let it cool then crack the egg and roll it around on the counter to loosen the shell. then peel the egg under cold running water.

put the egg in a saucepan and fill it half way up with water. boil it, for about 5 mins, then empty the water, and fill it half way with cold water, after a couple of mins take it out and peel it

Always use cold water and fresh eggs. They will peel easier. put the eggs in cold water bring them to a boil for 10 minutes. Then I put them in cold water. I let the water run over them for several minutes. Peal under cold water also.

Others have explained how to boil an egg, but I must point out, there is no hard boiled egg in a Waldorf salad.

since there is a question mark after waldorf salad let me answer NO. Waldorf salad does not contain cooked eggs.

Typically it's ingredients are:

3 or 4 apples, unpeeled, cut from the core, and chopped into bite size pieces (about 3 cups)

1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/3 cup raisins
2/3 cup chopped celery
1/3 cup walnuts (optional)
1/3 cup mayonnaise
1 tablespoon sugar

and you don't boil the eggs in mayo

This is the best method I have tried:
1. Place your eggs in a sauce pot.
2. Cover eggs with water.
3. Bring pot to a boil.
4. Place lid on pot and turn off heat.
5. Let stand for 30 minutes.
6. Run cold water into pot until eggs are cool enough to handle.

Just in case your mother never explained this to you, here are the simple steps involved in boiling an egg.

Place the egg in a saucepan.

Run cold water into the saucepan until the water is 1 inch above the egg.

Reduce the heat to low.

Simmer for 2 to 3 minutes for soft-boiled eggs or 10 to 15 minutes for hard-boiled eggs

Remove the egg with a spoon or ladle and let it cool slowly, or run cold water over it to cool it more quickly.

tips:

* Peel by rolling! No matter how the eggs are boiled, the easy way to peel them is to roll them back and forth on the counter with a flat palm, with just a tiny bit of pressure. As the shell cracks, the skin will keep it together until it comes off all in one piece. Easy, and egg will remain intact.

* The picture perfect hard-boiled egg has not a hint of green around the outside edge of its fully set yellow

* after the eggs boil, run them under cold water immeadiatley and it will prevent the yolk from turning that grey color when you stick it back in the fridge. Also, if you want to prevent your eggs from cracking while boiling, boil your water first, turn it to low when it starts boiling so you have a slow and steady boil, then add your eggs gently one at a time and doing over fill you sauce pan, you dont want your eggs to have no room to move while boiling.

Never heard of egg in Waldorf...isn't it made with spinach, walnuts and raisins?

*Boil some water with either salt or vinegar .
Immerse the eggs in it.
Let boil for 5 - 6 mins. Put off flame.
Cover pot with lid & let stand for 5 mins. more.
Remove, hold under the tap for a while and shell them for further use !!!!!
PS --- salt or vinegar is used so that if any egg cracks, while boiling, it will not spill out in the water, but instead, coagulate !!!!!!!

put egg in a pan full of boiling water and wait for about 4 min.

Boil good quality eggs in a pot for 10-15 minutes and then cool off. After peeling the eggs are ready for use.
