Answers:
Boil on the stove top. That way you don't waste the nutrients and end up with just the right amount of broth which makes it tastier and better to eat.
I favour the boil the water on the stove method.
who cares?
Both ways are also possible. In the end you just want to eat the noodles ! For the microwave way, the water ought to cover the noodles completely.
But ramen noodles are usually eaten soupy O_O (and you never mentioned it ...)
Also cooking the noodles (as per method on pack) actually taste nicer. Microwaved noodles have a different texture to it, even if its the same pack of ramen.
Been there, done both, and more =)
Make it any way you like it. I cook the noodles in water, drain it, add the flavoring, put it in a frying pan with 2 eggs and put it back on heat till the eggs cook. It's amazing!
boil water on the stove
I have a friend who uses the microwave method and I think it takes even longer.
I boil the noodles with about half the packette of powder, just to give a little flavour, then drain 'em. Then I heat up some oil in a skillet, add some chopped veggies, saute them, then add the drained noodles, the rest of the powder, a little soy sauce, a few drops of sesame oil, and saute until the noodles are slightly crispy. Then I enjoy a relatively healthy REAL meal, not just a dorm-room snack.
Actually, both ways are okay depending on how you like it.
The Japanese way is to eat them as a soup with whatever else you want to add to it. Things like onion, roast pork, dried seaweed, egg and other stuff can be added to round it out. In which case you do the stove top method.
The Chinese way is to drain them and add a sort of sauce to it which can be approximated by simply adding the flavour packet to the cooked and drained noodles.
I like to boil the noodles on the stove until soft, drain the water, then add the powder along with some butter.
My husband does the same, but does not drain the water, he prefers his like a soup.
