How do you repair tomato sauce when you have put too much sugar in it?
I have always put sugar in my salsa or tomato sauce to reduce the acidity of the tomatos. This time I put too much sugar so it is way too sweet. Does anyone know how to fix this without having to make a whole new batch?
Answers:
You can't get rid of the sweetness.
2 options
Make it extra spicy sweet ans spicy go very well together
or
make another pot without any sugar and combine the two that will equal out the over seasoning.
Use what you need and freeze the rest
Just add more sauce to the one you already made sweet and dont add an more sugar. If it is still to sweet, you might want to just start all over, instead of wasting more sauce. (And next time, measure your sugar) :)
Add more tomato sauce or try some salt. By the way - the acid will cut down the sugar over night - in the ref.
Add more sauce( take some of the original sauce out first) and more spice.
A word to the wise.
Sugar does not cut acidity. It just makes sauce sweet.
If you like sweet sauce knock yourself out. otherwise dont put any in.
You don't have to make a whole new batch, just make the one you have a double recipe, just don't add additional sugar. You can freeze the leftover sauce for later use.
You should never use sugar to sweeten the sauce, use basil instead.
To cut acidity in tomato based sauce. Sprinkle in a dash of baking soda. It will bubble slightly. Just stir until the bubbling has subsided. That removes the acidity.
