Is it unhealthy to use microwave ovens?!

Question:

Is it unhealthy to use microwave ovens?

Answers:
No, but the answer is more complex. Microwaves heat food with energy, just like conventional cooking. But instead of using energy in the infrared section of the spectrum, microwaves use a higher frequency energy, above the visible and infrared portions of the electromagnetic spectrum. These waves penetrate the food and hit the water molecules inside the food, causing them to vibrate. This causes friction, et voila, the food gets hot. The microwaves themselves are not absorbed by the food, and there's no residual or harmful effects.

However, microwave cooking does reduce the nutritional value of some foods. So, if you are making baby formula for instance, you'll want to heat the plain water before you add the formula powder. For adults, this is of little concern, as we typically (or shouldn't) get all our nutrition from microwaved foods. The amount of nutrition lost depends on the time the food spends being microwaved, just as it does with other cooking methods.

Microwaves can be part of healthy cooking, if used in moderation, like everything else.

no

No.

In fact, microwaving vegetables does not leach out the vitamins like boiling or steaming does, thus making them healthier.

What are you going to use it for?? I wouldn't recommend putting a whole garlic bulb in one for instance. I did that one time because I forgot to put it on the grill and KABOOM! It blew up and lets just say I had plenty of garlic powder after that. What a mess! I've heard that you shouldn't stand right in front of it while you're cooking either. Do you have a cell phone? I'd be much more worried about its effects.

There is more harmful radiation from the sun,, than can leak from your M/W
Unhealthy ???
How old is M/W technology.. 40 - 50 years???
Where have you been>>>?

If you use them correctly there is no problem. Then again IF YOU do things with your microwave that you shouldn't do then yes you could have a health problem. The key is to use your microwave according to manufactures directions and you will be safe.

Good luck.

Microwaving is a form of radiation. Over time, standing by the microwave, or one with a crack you may not have noticed... all can lend to health problems. I doubt anyone uses a microwave to that extent. But always replace a microwave that's been damaged in any way. Some foods lose their nutrients in the microwave, and there are actually some things that can be dangerous in other ways. Like: You really should never heat water to boiling in a microwave. There are certain chemical reactions that can happen:

Water superheated and when objects (e.g. a spoon) or granulated materials (e.g. instant coffee) are put into it, the water may boil very vigorously or even appear to explode out of the container. The vigorously ejected boiling water can cause serious burns. Sometimes even the act of taking the container out of the oven and or putting it on the counter can cause the boiling/explosive affect. So there's a right way even to boil water. (I've seen this happen and cause injury.. not to me) I NEVER boil water in the microwave. I'm not so impatient that I can't wait for a small amount of water to boil on the stove.

Yes. I heard that it causes a lot of health problems including cancer. I also heard that standing in front of microwaves during the heating process can also cause cancer.

only if you put your head in it and turn it on
