How long can fresh fish sit in the fridge before it goes bad?!

Question:

How long can fresh fish sit in the fridge before it goes bad?

I bought some fresh, wild atlantic salmon from the butcher part of Vons. It's been in my fridge since Wednesday night. Is it still ok to cook and eat?

I don't need recipes... I was just wondering if it will still be good to cook tonight.

Smell it. That's the best test. I wouldn't keep fish longer than two days after purchase. You should be OK if you cook it tonight...

smell it is good advice, but i would say 24 hours, top.

Cook it Today
INGREDIENTS
6 (4 ounce) fillets salmon
1 (.7 ounce) package dry Italian-style salad dressing mix
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 cup fresh sliced mushrooms
DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly butter one 9x13 inch baking dish.
In a cup, combine salad dressing mix, water and lemon juice.
Arrange salmon fillets in a single layer in the prepared baking dish. Pour the water mixture over the top and place the sliced mushrooms over the salmon.
Bake, covered, for 15 minutes. Remove cover and bake for an additional 15 minutes, basting with cooking liquids.

Smell it. That's almost the best answer.

As long as it is covered it will last 2-3 days, perhaps a little longer.
When it begins to smell, you will have left them too long.

Ok, smell it first, it should smell like a cross between the ocean and cucumbers. If that checks out ok, feel it, it should feel firm, not mushy, then check to see it if feels at all slimy (not oily, salmon is an oily fish). It should keep for three days, depending on when the store got it delivered.
